Stefana Fratila, Fist Full o' Snacks, Praying for Greater Portland
Stefana Fratila was born in Sibiu, Romania and spent the last year studying politics in Paris before returning to Vancouver last autumn. Her experimental pop is a combination of electronica, psych, and drone. Many aspects of her live performances are improvised over top of textured binaural beats that can induce subliminal emotional reactions in audience members. Stefana's songs are thematically influenced by Bollywood music and films (for example, by the theme of Bhayanak which is like fear or anxiety) and heavily centered around the experiences of boyats (Arab women who dress like boys underneath their burkas).
Fist Full o' Snacks
Fist Full o' Snacks' influences are diverse, and include minimalism, Balinese Gamelan, and New Music. Her music has graced concert halls to living rooms to seedy pubs. She attacks the piano with rhythmically asymmetrical arrangements, complimented by soaring vocal experimentations. Her songbank includes love songs to her bike, tales of epic pilgrimmage, and memories of life's many journeys and adventures. Currently, she is working on a capella quartet arrangements of her songs, in addition to her piano and vocal settings.
