BEN ROGERS, DANNY PAUL GRODY, CHUCK JOHNSON, LEATHAN MILNE
"Out with the new, in with the old" is the mantra of folk singer Ben Rogers who American Roots UK proclaim could "turn out to be one of the best songwriters for a generation." Influenced by the likes of Cormac McCarthy and Bob Dylan, Rogers is a true storyteller. His songs are filled with vivid images that tell timeless tales of murder, God, betrayal, war and the human condition through a voice of smoked damaged velvet soaked in Tennessee Whiskey. He has shared the stage with Mark Berube, C.R. Avery, The Fugitives, and Tim Hus. Rogers will be touring extensively throughout North America and Europe in 2013 in support of the forthcoming album, Lost Stories, which is due January 18th. From the epic opening track The Dealer to the anthemic closer Goodnight Forever, the record will leave listeners spellbound.
DANNY PAUL GRODY (San Francisco)
Danny Paul Grody is a solo musician and founding member of San Francisco based bands Tarentel, The Drift, Believer, and Moholy-Nagy. He is a self taught guitarist, and the melodies at the core of Danny’s songwriting bring to mind his love of West African kora, Tacoma style fingerpicking and all things minimal, repetitive & hypnotic.
His first solo album Fountain was released in 2010 on Root Strata followed up by In Search Of Light on the Students Of Decay label in 2011. He's contributed tracks to the recent Three Lobed 2012 record store day LP Eight Trails, One Path as well as to Vol. 5 of the excellent Tompkins Square guitar soli series, Imaginational Anthem. 2013 will see the release of his third solo album on the wonderful Three Lobed Recordings. He'll be joining fellow guitarist Chuck Johnson this Spring for some West Coast dates in support of their forthcoming albums on Three Lobed.
CHUCK JOHNSON (Oakland)
Chuck Johnson is a composer and musician residing in Oakland, CA. He approaches his work with an ear towards finding faults and instabilities that might reveal latent beauty, and with a focus on American Primitive fingerstyle guitar, experimental electronics, and minimalist composition. In 2010 Chuck Johnson was featured on the Beyond Berkeley Guitar comp on Tompkins Square, and in 2011 I released an album of solo acoustic guitar on Strange Attractors Audio House.
A soulful and emotional preformer, Leathan Milne draws on all kinds of musical influences which make up his current sound. Layered guitars, warm string sections and full, rich vocal harmonies.
