Ketamines with guests Warm Soda, The Ballantynes, Zebrassieres, Tough Age
Ketamines (Toronto) (Southpaw/Hozac/Mammoth Cave)
One of the most beloved, reverb-drenched, meta-galactic gangs that this fine-as-fuck nation has to offer. The Ketamines perpetuate delightfully quixotic nostalgia via enthralling pop-shop, garagey racket. These crackerjacks seem to dauntlessly remain matchless with aplomb in a genre that often does not see much variance. Every other band ever is seriously trying their darndest to sound like these cheeky fellers.
Warm Soda (Oakland) (Castle Face Records)
A "pop" group from Oakland, CA combining elements of power pop, glam, and garage rock.
The Ballantynes (La-Ti-Da Records)
A seven piece labor of love formed in East Vancouver in 2011. United with the common goals of dancing, drinking, and reveling in each other’s company, we have a sound that draws on influences that span decades, but might be best be described as living where Garage meets Gospel. With two male and two female vocalists, two guitars, two drummers, bass, and our special lady the Hammond organ, we aim for a sound that’s like a big soul-soaked bear hug for your eardrums. If the bear was wearing a jean jacket and was into The Clash.
Zebrassieres (Toronto) (P. Trash Records)
Emerging from the same fertile Ottawa pop-punk scene as White Wires and Steve Adamyk, though lead singer/songwriter Andrew Payne has recently relocated to Toronto. He’s brought the Zebrassieres name with him, but not his bandmates, so garage-psych rockers the Ketamines (recent transplants from Lethbridge, Alberta) have come aboard. Together, they deliver an infectious whiplash of a re-debut that urgently screams “Pay attention, Toronto.
Tough Age (Mammoth Cave Recording Co)
Bright, fast and relentless punk buried under scuzzy waves of lo-fi production and teenage irreverence, Tough Age fit right in with the Western Canadian punk scene that is largely clustered around Mammoth Cave. It doesn't hurt that they're all but a supergroup, featuring members of Korean Gut, Witch Baby, Sightlines and No Band. Trade high-fives and Bazooka Joe strips at the end of their set to complete the best night of your life.
