Safe Injection Comedy Fundraiser
w/ Kathleen McGee, Brett Martin, San Aung, Joey Commisso, Harris Anderson & more
There have been over 175 overdoses within the past week in the DTES. The state of emergency declared by the government has not made things move faster for folks on the street and in community.
The Overdose Prevention Society is on the ground providing emergency services in a state of emergeny. It costs them $150 to run a tent per day. This is a direct action that matters. Respect and credit go to Ann Livingston, Sarah Blyth and their crew of volunteers for their commitment to harm reduction and care.
Can laughing help in adverse times? We think so.
Tickets to this night of comedy and community are $20 via Eventbrite and at the door (if this doesn't sell out) and all of the money raised will go directly to their responsive, life-saving work.
Big love and thanks Mo Tarmohamed at The Rickshaw for generously donating the space for free, so let's fill it!
This night of funny is conceived and hosted by comedian Mark B. Hugheswho has made waves in Vancouver joking about his own story with addiction, the DTES and the prison system via his stand-up and his one man show Tragedy + Time Served = Comedy, which was a hit at this year's Vancouver Fringe. Mark is the perfect pilot to navigate through a night of laughs in the face of challenges.
Helping organize is comedian Emma Cooper of Rape is Real & Everywhere and Shit Harper Did, because what event can't use jokes from a funny, empathic, queer hipster? (Don't answer that).
The amazing roster of comedians donating their time and talent includes:
and more tba!
Community tickets are available if cost is a barrier. Please message Mark B. Hughes.
